Singing star Michael Ball OBE gave FiSH members and staff a joyful surprise when he turned up out of the blue to join in their “Singing for the Brain” group. The surprise was sprung on FiSH staff and members alike when Leah Hickie, who directs the session, announced that the singer and actor was joining them. Leah is the Director of Music for St. Paul’s Prep school and very kindly gives up her time each week to run the singing group, which is aimed at those with early-stage dementia and their carers.
Michael, who is rather better known for his starring roles in the West End, duly led the singing at Barnes Green Centre for this joyful session, bringing his warmth, humour and charm through familiar songs such as Love is All you Need, Moon River and What a Wonderful World, rounding off with the Hokey Cokey! He also posed for photographs with FiSH members, who were absolutely thrilled by his appearance. FiSH staff felt very privileged to witness this extra-special show and wish to thank Michael, Leah and in particular Andrea Bartlett from St. Paul’s Prep School for making it happen.
