How to join FiSH

Download our application form

Anyone who lives in Barnes, Mortlake or East Sheen (see our useful map) can join FiSH. We need to complete a few formalities when new members join, so you will need to fill out a joining form that will allow us to find out more about you.

We ask for practical information like the name of your GP and information about mobility but we also like to keep details about which of our services interest you most. This enables us to let you know about new events and activities that might interest you.

Just download and print out the form below and bring (or post) your completed form to our office at The Barnes Green Centre. Alternatively, just pop into the FiSH office to pick up a form.

Answering your questions

How do we recruit our volunteers?

We have a pool of over 250 amazing volunteers who help us to run our activities and helpline. We couldn’t do what we do without their help. All potential volunteers are given an interview, DBS checked and are asked to supply references before we recruit them. Training is provided should they need it, to ensure they are fully confident in providing the help required.

What can't FiSH help me with?

We’re unable to provide financial support.  We also can’t offer personal care, help with medication or cleaning.   In addition, we wouldn’t expect our volunteers to climb high ladders or take on anything they’re not qualified to do – such as electrics or plumbing.   We can ask our volunteers to help with simple tasks, such as changing a light bulb, or a bit of gardening.  In general if it’s something you would previously have done for yourself, or could reasonably ask a neighbour to help with, then you can ask FiSH to help.

Does FiSH accept referrals?

We are happy to receive referrals from GPs, social workers, district nurses, community mental health teams or concerned family members. Please call Liz on 020 8878 8100.

What if I live outside the FiSH area?

The FiSH ‘service’ area covers Barnes, Mortlake and East Sheen. All FiSH clients must live in one of these areas as a resident of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. However, if you live outside the FiSH area, each area of Richmond borough has its own neighbourhood network.

Our monthly newsletter

Free to FiSH members

You can find all the information you need about forthcoming events on this website but we also give you the information in our really useful monthly newsletter.

It’s full of news about what’s going on at FiSH, there’s always useful advice for our members, great articles to read. Plus, as a bit of fun, we have  puzzles too.
